IIT Guwahati and SDU Launch Indo-Danish Innovation Hub for Sustainable Tech

In a major step towards global academic collaboration and innovation, IIT Guwahati has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Southern Denmark (SDU). IIT Guwahati and SDU deal will create a platform for academia, industry and government to promote cutting edge research, academic exchange and sustainable technological development.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati and Prof. Henrik Bindslev, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at SDU. Mr. Jørgen Mads Clausen, Chairman of Danfoss and Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of Denmark in the Emirates was also present to symbolize the role of industry in academic and governmental synergy.

At the heart of the University of Southern Denmark & IIT Guwahati collaboration is the proposed Centre of Excellence for Indo–Danish Innovation and Translational Research to be set up at IIT Guwahati. The Centre will be a hub for bilateral innovation initiatives focusing on research that can be translated into real world, scalable solutions.

This will strengthen the trilateral partnership model — academic expertise, industrial application and governmental policy — to drive innovation in areas like:

  • Sustainable technologies
  • Energy efficiency
  • Climate friendly engineering solutions
  • Other mutually beneficial areas of research

Academic and Research Exchange Programs

One of the key features of the IIT Guwahati’s MoU is the development of joint Master’s and Ph.D. programs. These programs will have co-supervision from both the institutions and will have mutual credit recognition so that students can move seamlessly across the institutions.

Also, the IIT Guwahati-SDU partnership will have faculty and student exchange programs to foster cross cultural engagement, academic exposure and build a globally competent workforce.

Commenting on the collaboration, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati said,

This collaboration will help us to position IIT Guwahati as a global hub for technology, research and academic excellence. With SDU and industry we will develop solutions for global challenges.”He said.

Governance and Future Scope

The MoU will be governed by a Joint Steering Committee comprising of members from academia and industry from both the institutions. This committee will also help in mobilizing financial support and industrial participation so that the initiatives under the MoU are well resourced and industry relevant.
