In a major boost to India’s cybersecurity ecosystem, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has upgraded the C3iHub at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur to a Technology Translational Research Park (TTRP) under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS).
The announcement was made by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, during a review meeting earlier this week. With this, C3iHub becomes one of the few select centers in India to fast-track deep-tech research into commercially viable and societally impactful cybersecurity solutions.

From Innovation Hub to Translational Powerhouse
C3iHub was set up in 2020 as a Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) under the NM-ICPS framework. In its first term, the hub has achieved significant outcomes—15 technology products deployed, 49 start-ups incubated, 10,000+ individuals trained across various cybersecurity domains. Its ecosystem has three spokes and 50 spikes—academic and industry partners that form the backbone of its innovation pipeline.
The TTRP status brings in more funding and infrastructure support and positions the cybersecurity platform to play a national leadership role in cybersecurity research, innovation and entrepreneurship. The hub will now focus more on industry-academia partnerships, deep-tech startups and commercialization of homegrown cybersecurity technologies.
“This is a recognition of our ongoing efforts in cybersecurity research and innovation. The additional support will further accelerate the translation of research into market-ready solutions,” said Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur.
A Step Towards National Cybersecurity
As digital infrastructure is the backbone of India’s economy and governance, the need for cybersecurity has never been more pressing. From protecting critical infrastructure to countering emerging threats, C3iHub’s TTRP status is a national push to secure India’s cyber-physical systems.C3iHub’s approach covers the entire cybersecurity spectrum—vulnerability identification, indigenous tool development, startup incubation and future talent training. 60% of its incubated startups have commercialized at least one product and 25% of its R&D has resulted in demonstrable technological outcomes.
With the new status, cybersecurity platform will be the national anchor for translating cybersecurity research into practical, scalable solutions, in line with India’s vision of technological self-reliance and digital resilience.
