VinFast Auto, a Vietnam-based EV maker, has announced a partnership with Indian clean-tech startup BatX Energies for battery recycling, material recovery and repurposing in India. This is a big move for the EV sector’s shift towards sustainable manufacturing and resource circularity.

Vinfast-BatX Energies Partnership: A Sustainability Milestone

Under the agreement, BatX Energies will provide end-to-end recycling services for high-voltage EV batteries used in VinFast India’s manufacturing facility and after-sales ecosystem. The process will involve extracting and recovering critical raw materials — lithium, nickel and cobalt — and putting them back into the battery production cycle.

VinFast and BatX partnership is in line with VinFast’s sustainability goals and India’s push towards a clean energy future, supporting both environmental goals and the growing demand for EV infrastructure.

This partnership with BatX Energies is a big step towards building a sustainable circular battery ecosystem in India,” said Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia. “We will reduce resource dependency, support national priorities and set a new benchmark for responsible innovation in electric mobility.

What BatX Brings to the Table

Founded as a clean-tech company specialising in battery recycling, rare metal recovery and second-life applications, BatX Energies is a key enabler of India’s emerging EV ecosystem. They will also ensure traceability across the recycling process, full transparency and regulatory compliance — essential in an era of increasing environmental accountability.

According to Utkarsh Singh, CEO of BatX Energies, the deal is about “shared belief in responsible innovation and resource circularity to strengthen the EV battery value chain.”

By providing sustainable end-of-life solutions for EV batteries, we are building infrastructure that can grow with the industry and create long term environmental impact,” Singh said.

Urban Mining & Second-Life Applications

It’s not just about recycling. Both companies see a broader scope, urban mining, strategic material recovery and second-life applications for used batteries. This will help India and Vietnam lead the way in circular economy innovation and create a template for future EV partnerships in emerging markets.

VinFast in India

VinFast’s partnership with BatX is one of many strategic moves as it fast-tracks its India expansion. The company is investing USD 500 million (~INR 4,290 crore) in a facility at Thoothukudi (Tuticorin), Tamil Nadu, to be completed by mid-2025. Once operational, the plant will produce up to 1,50,000 EVs per annum with exports to the Middle East and Africa.

VinFast is also gearing up to launch its first vehicles in India — VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs — before the festive season. It has already partnered with RoadGrid and myTVS for charging infrastructure and after-sales services, and with Global Assure for roadside assistance.

Industry Impact and Investor Takeaways

From a stock market and industry perspective, this partnership solidifies VinFast as a forward-thinking EV manufacturer focused on vertical integration and sustainability. This marks a new phase in India’s EV industry where battery lifecycle management will be key to competitiveness, regulatory compliance and environmental responsibility.

For investors, VinFast’s partnerships with infrastructure and recycling companies de-risk its India operations by having a holistic supply and service ecosystem. BatX Energies, which closed a USD 5 million (~INR 42.90 crore) pre-Series A round in late 2023 and is now looking to raise USD 20 million (~INR 171 crore) in Series A, will benefit greatly from the scale and visibility of this partnership.

In FY25, BatX reported USD 4.5 million (~INR 38.6 crore) in revenue and is projected to reach INR 10-12 million (~INR 103 crore) in FY26 as recycling and resource recovery demand increases with India’s EV growth.

Final Words

This is more than a business partnership; it’s a template for how EV players can scale responsibly in emerging markets. With raw material scarcity, mining impact and EV battery waste on the rise, circularity is no longer a nice-to-have — it’s a must-have.

As India becomes an EV hub, these partnerships will be the building blocks for a future-proof, sustainable and circular electric mobility ecosystem.
