Deeptech startup BosonQ Psi (BQP), a quantum-first simulation software company, has raised USD 4.9 million (~INR 42.23 crore) in an oversubscribed seed funding round led by Silicon Valley-based Monta Vista Capital, pushing its total funding to USD 6.6 million (~INR 56.88 crore). The round drew participation from a diverse syndicate including Empire State Development’s New York Ventures, Arc Ventures, Emergent Ventures, Alumni Ventures, Armory Square Ventures, Arka Venture Labs, Transpose Platform, GainAngels, Pranatech Venture Capital, and strategic angel investors such as Paradigm Shift Capital and Griffiss Institute through the Mojave Aerospace Accelerator Fund.

Founded in 2020 by Abhishek Chopra, Jash Minocha, and Rut Lineswala, BQP develops quantum-accelerated simulation platforms for engineering domains, targeting critical sectors like aerospace, defense, semiconductors, and energy. The company is headquartered in Syracuse, New York, with a technology hub in Bengaluru, India.

Powering the Future with BQPhy

At the heart of BQP’s innovation is its flagship platform, BQPhy, a unified digital-twin solution built to operate seamlessly across hybrid computing environments including CPUs, GPUs, and eventually quantum processors. The company claims that its hybrid solvers already offer up to 10x performance gains on classical infrastructure and aim to achieve up to 1000x speedups as quantum hardware matures.

BQPhy is designed to plug directly into current engineering workflows, enhancing simulation capabilities in areas like computational fluid dynamics, optimization, and machine learning—without the need for dedicated quantum hardware.

Strategic Collaborations & Validation

The funding comes on the heels of a strategic Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the US Air Force Research Laboratory’s Aerospace Systems Directorate (AFRL/RQ). This collaboration focuses on leveraging quantum computing for enhanced modeling and simulation capabilities critical to aerospace missions.

BQP’s technology is currently being evaluated by AFRL/RQ and three unnamed aerospace and defense companies, and the company’s broader partner network includes IBM, Intel, Moog, IAI North America, Classiq, Strangeworks, ABB, and India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries. One of its design partners includes a Tier I aerospace manufacturer.

Funding Utilization Strategy

Speaking to media, Abhishek Chopra, Founder, CEO, and Chief Scientific Officer of BQP, stated that the freshly raised capital will serve two key objectives:

  1. Market Expansion in Aerospace and Defense (A&D):
We are scaling our sales and marketing operations tailored for A&D clients and accelerating BQPhy’s deployment in this high-impact sector,” said Chopra.
  2. R&D on Quantum-Native Solutions:
A significant portion of the funding will go into enhancing our R&D efforts, especially in developing quantum-native solvers that take full advantage of emerging quantum hardware.

Industry Outlook & Market Opportunity

BQP sits at the intersection of quantum computing and the USD 22 billion simulation industry, which is being constrained by the limitations of classical technology. According to Markets and Markets, the quantum computing market will grow at 32% CAGR to USD 4.7 billion by 2029. That’s a huge opportunity for quantum enabled solutions in mission critical industries.

Roger Krakoff, Partner at Monta Vista Capital said:

BQP addresses the critical bottlenecks in industries like aerospace, defense and semiconductors – industries where traditional simulation tools are no longer good enough.
