NSE IPO description – National Stock Exchange (NSE) is the leading stock exchange in India and the fourth largest in the world by equity trading volume in 2021, according to WFE. NSE has a fully-integrated business model comprising exchange listings, trading services, clearing and settlement services, indices, market data feeds, technology solutions, and financial education offerings.

Globally, NSE is ranked the leading exchange in terms of stock index option and currency option trading volumes in 2021, according to WFE Statistics. This translates into a market share of 39% globally. NSE is also ranked fifth among exchanges globally in terms of single stock futures contracts trading volume and second in currency futures contracts trading volume in 2021.

NSE began operations in 1994 and has emerged as the largest stock exchange in India in terms of total turnover and average daily turnover (ADT), for equity shares every year since 1995. It enjoyed a market share (by total turnover) of 93% in the Equity Cash market, 100% in Equity Futures, 100% in Equity Options, 70% in Currency Futures, and 95% in Currency Options for FY 2022, based on premium value.


NSE has a total market capitalization of more than INR 261.81 trillion (~USD 3,273 billion), making it one of the largest stock exchanges in the world. NSE’s flagship index, the NIFTY 50, a 50 stock index is used extensively by investors in India and around the world as a barometer of the Indian capital market. NSE offers comprehensive coverage of the Indian capital markets across asset classes. NSE’s fully-integrated business model comprises exchange listing, trading services, clearing and settlement services, indices, market data feeds, technology solutions, and financial education offerings.

As of 31st March 2023, the total number of companies listed in NSE was 2,137. This figure marks a slight increase of 6.21% compared to the previous year’s total of 2,012. Additionally, it includes 88 companies listed on the SME platform (Small and Medium Enterprises).
